Every six months the internet declares the cargo pant over, and every six months it comes back wider, lower, and with more pockets than any human could fill. The cargo is not a trend. It is a permanent fixture that people simply keep styling badly.

The one rule

Balance the volume. A wide cargo wants a fitted top; a slim cargo wants something boxy up top. Break that rule and you read as either a deflating balloon or a walking tent. Honour it and the most utilitarian trouser in your wardrobe suddenly looks deliberate.

Pockets are a feature, not a personality. Use two, ignore the rest.

The six silhouettes worth owning run from a tapered ripstop for everyday to a truly absurd parachute pant for the days you want to be perceived. Start in the middle, earn the extremes.
